Arrive Beijing

Arrive in Beijing, meet and transfer to the hotel. Free time for leisure.

Day 2

Beijing (B,L,D)

Today's tour starts at Tian'anmen Square, the landmark of Beijing, as well as a symbol of the new China. Proceed to the Imperial Palace (Forbidden City), the largest and most complete complex of ancient architecture. After lunch, enjoy an afternoon tour of the lavish Summer Palace.

Day 3

Beijing (B,L,D)

Today's highlight is a visit to the Great Wall, the longest and most ancient structure ever built by man. After lunch, visit the Sacred Way and Ming Tomb, which houses the tombs of 13 emperors of the Ming Dynasty (1368 AD -1644 AD). Evening: taste Peking Roast Duck Banquet and enjoy a cultural show.

Day 4

Beijing / Xining by air (B,L,D)

Take morning flight to Xining ¨C the capital city of Qinghai province. Positioned at the edge of the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau with an altitude of 2275 meters, it serves as a stopover for the trip to Tibet. After lunch, we'll tour the Taer Monastery ¨C one of the six great monasteries of the Yellow Hat Sect of Tibetan Buddhism. This evening, enjoy a welcome dinner.

Day 5

Xining ¨C Express Train to Tibet (B,L,D)

In the morning, we'll visit the Provincial Museum Then we tour the Residence of General Ma Bufang - a warlord in the 1940's, and the Great Mosque, with over 600 years of history. This evening, we'll board the Express train for Lhasa and start our adventure in Tibet.

Day 6

Arrival Lhasa (B,L,D)

The Tibet Railway runs 1,956 kilometers from Xining to Lhasa and is the world's longest railroad built atop a plateau. Construction started on June 29th, 2001 and opened to traffic on July 1st, 2006. The Golmud-Lhasa section extends 1,142 kilometers, with the highest elevation being some 5,072 meters above sea level at Tanggula Range, making it the highest railway in the world.
This morning, if weather permits, you'll enjoy a marvelous view of the rising sun.
Throughout the rest of the day, you will see:
* Kunlun Mountain ¨C renowned as the ancestor of many mountains in the area.
* Kekexili ¨C ¡°paradise for wild animals¡±.
* Couna Lake ¨C the highest fresh water lake in the world and a holy lake for Tibetans.
* Damshung ¨C ¡°Gate of Northern Tibet¡±, etc.
* Arrival at Lhasa in the evening, transfer and check in hotel.

Day 7

Lhasa (B,L,SD)

Today's highlight is the magnificent Potala Palace, once the seat of Tibetan government and winter palace of the Dalai Lama. After lunch, visit Norbulingka ¨C the summer palace of the Dalai Lama. Dinner at Crazy Yak Restaurant with Tibetan cultural performance.

Day 8

Lhasa (B,L,SD)

This morning we'll tour the golden-roofed Jokhang Monastery - Tibet's holiest shrine. It commemorates the marriage of Tang princess Wencheng to King Songtsen Gampo 1,300 years ago, and houses a pure gold statue of the Buddha Sakyamuni brought to Tibet by the princess. Then we'll walk around the pilgrim circuit - Barkhor Street. In the afternoon, we visit Sera Monastery - one of the three largest monasteries of Gelugpa.

Day 9

Lhasa / Chengdu by air (B,L,D)

Take morning flight to Chengdu. Built in 316 BC during the Warring States Period, Chengdu boasts a 2,300-year history, which is linked closely with arts and crafts trades. Upon arrival, transfer to hotel for check-in. Afternoon tour of the still-functioning Dujiangyan Ancient Irrigation Project ¨C a UNESCO world heritage site.

Day 10

Chengdu (B,L,D)

Today's highlight is the visit to the Giant Panda Breeding Center where you'll see this lovely creature up close and learn its habitat and evolution. Then we tour the mysterious Sanxingdui Museum ¨C another UNESCO world heritage site.

Day 11

Chengdu / Shanghai by air (B)

Take morning flight to Shanghai. Upon arrival, transfer to hotel for check-in and free time.

Day 12

Today's sightseeing includes the Bund, the 16th century Yu Garden and Jade Buddha Temple. In the evening, enjoy the Shanghai Acrobatic Show ¨C an unforgettable experience.

This morning, we'll leave the metropolis and tour Zhujiajiao ¨C an ancient water town and a hidden gem in fast-changing China. After lunch, we'll visit the Shanghai Museum with its remarkable collections of ancient bronze, ceramics, paintings, and calligraphy.
